Hoxton, Shoreditch and Old Street

Cafe Kick, 127 Shoreditch High Street London, E1 6JE

Relaxed, not to trendy bar with food and the ubquitous fusball tables. Gets incredible busy after work during happy hour (until 7). Music is not usually too loud, but the amount of people coupled with competitive fusball players can make it noisy.

The Commercial Tavern, 142 Commercial Street, Shoreditch, London, E1 6NU

Half decent bar with ok wine and cocktails, but very loud music repeatedly put up by the manager when her staff turned it down.

Talk rating: 2/5 (in the evening, after 7pm)

Danger of Death, 202 Brick Lane, Shoreditch, London, E1 6SA

Tiny (speakeasy) members only bar underneath Super pizza. Great cocktails, cool if understated decor, relaxed atmos with music to match. Service can be slightly over familiar. Advise booking as very small. Open Wed-Sat until 1pm.

Dragon Bar, 138-139 Shoreditch High Street, Shoreditch, London, E1 6JE

Slightly forgetable bar, but pleasant drinks and serves food (although haven't tried). Usual decor of dark walls, beaten up leather sofas.

George and Vulture, 63 Pitfield Street, London, N1 6BU

Closer to Old street than Shoreditch, nice pub with a trendy feel. Good staff coupled with tasty pizzas make it a great meeting place before clubbing, can get quite loud at the weekends.

St John's Bread & Wine,  94-96 Commercial St  London E1 6LZ

A smaller and more casual version of the Michelin star restaurant in Smithfields. Great english tapas food in addition to a bakery on the premises. Slight issue with the acoustics, when full can be noisy.

Village Underground, 54 Holywell Ln  Shoreditch, London EC2A 3PQ

An independent venue that has various private events, club nights and music performances. Great atmosphere and spacious decor insode is spoilt by more management of queues. Toilets not great. Dance rating will depend on event.

XOYO32-37 Cowper Street  Shoreditch, London EC2A 4AP

Nightclub and gig venue. Music depends on the night and what gis they have. Two rooms with a great sound system not ear splitting. Packed when I went but still some space to dance. Had a mixed experience with the staff.

Zigfried, 11 Hoxton Square  London, Greater London N1 6NU

Eclectic decor makes this bar stand out from the average hoxton bar. Great int he week with good music and service. Weekends is jammed and is more like a nightclub.
